Director, Office of Safety Research and Development Office of Safety Research and Development
As Director of the Office of Safety Research and Development at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, Monique Evans provides executive leadership and guidance for improving and advancing transportation safety-related technologies and innovations. Monique also formulates strategies for transitioning safety-related products, procedures and services from the research and technology development phase to deployment and commercialization.
Before joining FHWA in 2010, Monique served for almost 20 years at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), where she had several roles including the Administrator of Research and Development and the Roadway Standards Engineer.
Monique holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, where she majored in structural engineering. She is a Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and a Certified Public Manager.
Monique has served on numerous national committees including the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Conduct of Research Committee (CoR), the TRB Roadside Safety Committee, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standing Committee on Research (SCOR), AASHTO Research Advisory Committee (RAC) and the Task Force on Roadside Safety (Task Force 13).
