Lesson Information

Learning Expectations:

To understand the six types of simple machines, and specifically the types of pulleys and how they work.

Plan Of Action:

Students will build a pulley tower and compete to see which can support the most weight lifted by the pulley.

Students should work in groups and have a limited supply of sticks and glue. The tower must be 3 craft sticks tall.

Data Set Used:

Students will be given rules and supplies for this activity.

Materials Needed:

This activity requires the following:
1. Craft sticks
2. Hot glue gun/hot glue
3. Pulley/weight

Preparation Period:

1. Download powerpoint to computer ahead of time and look through material.
2. Have an idea how many members you want in each group.
3. Have supplies ready for groups (sticks, glue)

Implementation Period:

Lesson will last approximately 45 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for powerpoint and questions, 20 minutes for building, 15 minutes for testing.
