Lesson Information

Learning Expectations:

To understand the parts of a vehicle and the concept of average fuel economy.

Plan Of Action:

Students will build a car out of food items that must roll down a ramp (not slide). It must have a body, wheels that rotate, and 2 axles. Students may eat car if it is successful. Students must use at least 3 food items.

Data Set Used:

Students will be given rules and supplies for this activity.

Materials Needed:

This activity requires the following:
1. Various food items
2. A ramp for testing

Preparation Period:

1. Download powerpoint to computer ahead of time and look through material.
2. Have an idea how many members you want in each group.
3. Have supplies ready for groups (food items)

Implementation Period:

Lesson will last approximately 45 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for powerpoint and questions, 20 minutes for building, 15 minutes for testing.
