Learning Expectations:

To understand how magnets work, how they are used in transportation, and how to calculate the "Factor of Merit".

Plan Of Action:

Students will find the highest FOM (Factor of Merit) value and try to make a vehicle that carries the most washers at the fastest speed with the least amount of magnets.

Data Set Used:

Students will be given rules and supplies for this activity.

Materials Needed:

This activity requires the following:
1. Washers
2. Magnets

Preparation Period:

1. Download powerpoint to computer ahead of time and look through material.
2. Have an idea how many members you want in each group.
3. Have supplies ready for groups (washers, magnets)

Implementation Period:

Lesson will last approximately 45 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for powerpoint and questions, 20 minutes for building, 15 minutes for testing.
