Learning Expectations:

To understand structural engineering, the important parts of truss bridges, and the different types of truss bridges.

Plan Of Action:

Students will review tension and compression, and focus on the integral parts of truss bridges. Students will have a chance to design a truss bridge out of skewers and test.

Data Set Used:

Students will be given rules and supplies for this activity.

Materials Needed:

This activity requires the following for each group:
1. 5 long skewers
2. Multiple short skewers
2. Tape

Preparation Period:

1. Download powerpoint to computer ahead of time and look through material.
2. Have an idea how many members you want in each group.
3. Have supplies ready for groups (long and short skewers, tape)

Implementation Period:

Lesson will last approximately 45 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for powerpoint and questions, 20 minutes for building, 15 minutes for testing.
