Lesson Information

Learning Expectations:

Students will understand potential vs kinetic energy, as well as how it's applied to engines and cars.

Plan Of Action:

Students will talk about kinetic and potential energy, slingshots, internal combustion in engines, and energy transfer in automobiles.

Data Set Used:

Students will be given rules and supplies for this activity.

Materials Needed:

Materials per group:
1. 8 craft sticks
2. 4 wheels
3. 2 straws
4. 1/8 " dowels
5. 1 paperclip
6. masking tape
7. hot glue with safety nozzle

Preparation Period:

1. Download powerpoint to computer ahead of time and look through material.
2. Have an idea how many members you want in each group.
3. Have supplies ready for groups

Implementation Period:

Lesson will last approximately 45 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for powerpoint and questions, 20 minutes for building, 15 minutes for testing.
